Here a Chick, There a Chick

I am starting to feel a little like Old MacDonald.  I have been working on projects for my class "The Art of Spring" and it seems that we have hit on most of the animals on his farm.  We have done rabbits, lambs and ducks already and the chicks are now finished.  Oh, and let's not forget the eggs which will hatch the chicks.  I still have cows to do.  Then I think that we mooooo-ve on to flowers.

Chicks are fun to do.  Actually, all these animals have been fun, but the chicks have been super easy. Two circles just about does it.  The hardest part is getting the eyes right.  One of my little guys looks a bit like Groucho Marx.  I accidentally went a little too heavy on the eyebrows.

These little babies were made on canvas using lots of gesso, heavy bodied paint, paint, stencils, pen, ink and some book paper mixed with twine.  I untwisted the 3-ply twine into individual strands to add to the nests.  Oh, and I had a ton of fun using my crackle paint that I never use.  I kind of dug that and have already used it on another project and I foresee many more in the future.

The eggs went through many changes.  I think that I painted them 3 times before I was happy.  Then I had to stencil them.

Baaaaa!

It is the 2nd day of March and I am not impressed.  There were 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground and Grocery Boy spent his morning with a shovel and a snow blower.  It will be 30 to 40 degrees below normal for a couple of days.

However, not to despair entirely, the weatherman says that we should be at freezing by the end of the week. Sigh.

Obviously, the easiest thing for me to do is work in the Bat Cave.  I feel as if my attempts at art are actually offerings to Mother Nature.  I don't think that she is impressed.  Perhaps a lamb or two will appease the merciless b***h.  These little guys were made with heavy bodied paint, paint, ink, tissue paper and watercolor in an art journal.  At least they look happy.

I think the one on the right is a little afraid to come out!

If you run an old credit card into some heavy bodied paint to make lines and then paint it green, you get grass!

I do love the chunky texture of the lamb's wool.
